Stargaze
Stargaze was proposed and completed for the first annual AIA Passageways competition; an initiative to bring design interventions to the underused alleyways of downtown Chattanooga. Stargaze was conceived as an installation that would bring our focus back to the night sky.
A series of beacons were suspended above and along the alley through a network of tension cables and anchor points. The beacons were constructed out of lightweight aluminum and one way mirrored acrylic. During the day the beacons would reflect the surrounding landscape. After sunset, real time data from the Star API provided by NASA and the American Museum of Natural History’s Digital Universe Data controlled interior LED lights to glow and mimic the night sky above for a contemplative and playful installation
